[SYNOPSIS]

For Award 2025, Alison Rees undertook a long-distance walk through the London Green Belt, marking each stage with a porcelain postcard — around 400 selected from 500 made. The project responds directly to the ongoing political debate over Green Belt land use, housing and growth. Each postcard is a record of what exists right now, at this specific moment in time.

[TRANSCRIPT]

"Everything starts with the walking, and the way of noticing. You can be in a place that feels a little bit mysterious, a little bit magical.

An artist doesn't make work in a vacuum. Everything has a backdrop to what's happening at the time that you make the work.

I used to think I didn't make political work — work that was going to say something about something. But I've realised everything I do is saying something."
